Seeking an Osprey aether plus 85 review? If so, welcome to tradclimbers.com. We are happy you have made it here. The first thing to mention is that the Osprey Aether Plus 85 is a huge backpack! However, if you want an 85-liter pack, you should be prepared to pay extra. The features are the second point to emphasize.

This backpack has an incredible number of straps, compartments, and connection points. One of my primary criteria for a knapsack is that it be simple and uncomplicated in look. In my opinion, once the proper fit is attained, most adjustments, sliders, and straps become unneeded.

As a result, the Osprey Aether Plus 85 immediately struck me as the type of pack I would avoid at all costs. To be honest, I was a little worried about how this Osprey Aether Plus 85 backpack review would turn out.

Osprey, on the other hand, has a strong reputation for creating high-quality packs, so I felt they wouldn't do anything unless it was for a good cause. I proceeded to thoroughly inspect the backpack, and thankfully, things began to make sense. In reality, this is quite reasonable reasoning.

  • There are a lot of good things about this backpack.
  • Pockets that have been carefully thought out.
  • Comfortable.
  • This pack has an open-topped beaver tail pocket on the outside of the back that is very convenient.
  • Expanding and compressing are both good ways to do things.
  • It can carry a lot of weight.

  • There is a little more weight in this pack than the other ones.
  • No, it doesn't have a comfortable waist belt.
  • On the back, the daypack moves around too much.
  • If you're going to be taking a bear canister, you might want to get a bigger one (85L).

According to Osprey, the Aether Plus 85 is designed for multi-day trips and will provide “uncompromising comfort, ventilation, and stability for your multi-day travels.” So, how does the pack intend to achieve this goal? I used this as the basis for my Osprey Aether Plus 85 rucksack evaluation.

The pack is made of 420D High Tenacity Bluesign Nylon, which is quite strong. This has withstood being slammed against rocks and jabbed with walking sticks, among other things. This fabric was designed and produced in line with the most stringent environmental laws. Its long-term usability demonstrates Osprey's dedication that the longer a pack is in use, the less new packs are needed to replace it. The environmental impact of the production process is reduced as a result.

The Main Pack

On either side of the lid, there are two compartments. One is large enough to hold a significant number of maps as well as any other equipment you would need. The other is smaller and has a key clip, which is really useful.

You can divide the interior of the Osprey Aether Plus 85 into two compartments or use it as a single huge space. The inner divider flap is held by two locking sliders that can be fastened in place rather than typical clips. This cuts the quantity of plastic required by half for this feature. There is also a hydration sleeve on the inside with a flap over the hose for easy access to water.

The J-front panel access zip allows you to swiftly and conveniently get to the front of the pack. This allows you to easily access things placed farther down the stack without having to unpack everything. It is quite useful to be able to carry something for an extended period of time.

On the front panel, there are two large side-by-side zipped pockets. They are spacious enough to comfortably handle most water bottles as well as a pair of sandals. Finally, on the left and right sides, there is a front flap with stretch-panel sides. This can be used to store a climbing helmet, crampons, or a backup jacket, among other things.

Osprey Aether Plus 85 Men's Backpacking Backpack

The Osprey Aether Plus 85's base compartment is accessed by a huge double zip that is both robust and functional. The inside divider allows you to keep items like your sleeping bag separately, which is great in this case. The sleeping-mat straps, which are a stroke of genius in design, are intended to keep goods like a mat or tent against the front of the pack rather than across the base.

This essentially implies that your mat will not be crushed every time you lay the pack down. When placed on the ground, the pack remains stable and upright. The front features are completed by two compression flaps and two compression straps, which keep your equipment tight and stable while you're out and about. This is true no matter how much weight you're carrying or how heavy your load is.

The Osprey Aether Plus 85 has two extra large stretch mesh pockets built into the sides that are ideal for carrying water bottles, tent poles, backup trekking poles, or wet items. The mesh is enhanced by compression straps in the shape of zig-zags. Compression straps are also utilised to compress the upper part of the pack. All of the zips include large looping zip pulls. This product is best used with gloved hands.

External Fixings

There are twin ice-axe loops and trekking-pole loops, depending on the application. Simple hefty elasticated holders are employed to keep them in place for security. Osprey's “Stow-on-the-Go” trekking pole connection mechanism makes it easy to store trekking poles while on the go. It's very effective.

Finally, there's a rain cover that zips up into the pack's base and attaches to loops around the bag's body. This provides weatherproof protection in the event of severe weather. We definitely wanted to include in that fact in this Osprey aether plus 85 review.

The large number of straps, which appeared to be a bit perplexing at first, turns out to be totally understandable. With the pack half full, the straps still offer excellent compression to keep the contents safe and stable while on the go. So far, the promise of “unwavering constancy” has shown to be a reasonable expectation.

The Lid

The Osprey Aether 85's cover may be removed, increasing the bag's versatility. By releasing two clips at the top of the packaging, the lid may be removed. When you open the top to uncover the secret compartment, you'll be inside a roomy daypack with shoulder straps. This is also very beautifully done. The lid pockets are converted into front pockets, and the interior of the top opens up to create 16 litres of storage space. In the inside, it has a hook and a sleeve for a hydration pack, as well as grooves on the shoulder straps to keep the hose securely in place.

There's an old adage that states you'll load your pack no matter how big it is. When I was planning a vacation, the sheer size of the Osprey Aether Plus 85 backpack piqued my interest. I definitely had enough room to bring a few extra treats with me on my trip. When fully loaded, I noticed that the pack weighed roughly 20kg. Much more than I had anticipated to do otherwise.
